Annual Winter RFE is back! Say "你好(Ni-Hao)" to Taiwan! This time, we will come to the busiest airport in Taiwan, Taoyuan International Airport (RCTP/TPE). Sitting in the middle of East Asia region. The airport plays a crucial role by connecting with Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, and Mainland China. Let's book a flight to draw a perfect end to 2023.


Pilot Briefing

 

RCTP/TPE (TAIWAN TAOYUAN INTL)

GENERAL

 

  • Elevation 108 FT AMSL.

  • Transition Altitude 11000 FT.

  • Transition Level FL130.

  • West traffic pattern is used.

  • Aircraft are prohibited strictly to cross Taiwan Strait straightly.

  • Pilot shall actively advise Delivery if unable to perform RNAV SID.

  • Local pattern training will be permitted depending on traffic.

  • Make sure you have navigation data newer than AIRAC 1911.

 

GROUND OPERATION

 

  • Some older scenery may not include taxiway P3, P4, Q1, Q2, S10, S10, W1, W2. But include taxiway W (besides Terminal 2, connecting P6 and Q4). Pilots shall inform Ground if they are unable to comply with it, and alternate route will be given.

  • If pushback in or taxi on the wrong direction, pilot shall advise Ground immediately and shall not make a 180 degree turn. Alternate route will be given. 

  • If dual Ground is opened.​​​

    • Apron A, D, Cargo Apron (501~525) shall contact RCTP_N_GND on 121.7 MHz.

    • Apron B, C and Remote Apron (601~615) shall contact RCTP_S_GND on 121.6 MHz.

  • Airbus A380 is prohibited to use taxiway E, Q6, Q7.

 

DEPARTURES

 

  • SID postfix: A – 05R / B – 23L / C – 05L / D – 23R.

  • Initial altitude is 3000 FT for all aircrafts.

NOISE ABATEMENT

  • SIDs comprise the 3NM initial climb on runway heading are mandatory. No early turn should be made unless ATC instruction or in emergency.

  • North bound aircraft shall use RNAV departures during 1400-2300 UTC when runway 23R/23L is active.

 

ARRIVALS

 

  • STAR postfix: A – 05L & 05R / B – 23L & 23R.

  • BAKER 1 / DRAKE 1 / GRACE 1 RNAV ARR descend planning.​

    • Runway 05L/05R in use: Passing COPRA / DRAKE / GRACE at FL200.

    • Runway 23L/23R in use: Passing COPRA / DRAKE / GRACE at FL140.

  • TONGA 1 / TNN 1 RNAV ARR descend planning.

    • Passing BOCCA / MENON / ARLEN / ABSOL at FL290.

  • ​Landing runway will be issued by Approach.

ARRIVAL SPEED CONTROL

  • At or below FL250 and at or above FL130: maintain 280KT IAS.

  • Below FL130 and at or above 10000FT: maximum 280KT IAS.

APPROACH SPEED CONTROL

  • For the details restriction, please refer to the IAP chart of each procedure.

  • ATC instruction:"Cancel speed restriction below 10,000" does not cancel the Approach Speed Control.

  • Approach Speed Control should be canceled by ATC instruction: "Cancel Approach Speed Control".
